HEPH ED IN ACTION

A note on film quality: Heph Ed is a structured yet fluid learning environment. The films below capture the flow of our classes. The footage was meant for internal review, so it’s sometimes a bit chaotic, mis-framed, or has lousy sound. Filming was often done with iPhones held to our sides so that participants were not aware of our filming. That being said, please forgive some of the filmmaking.

A note on time frame: HEPH ED programs take place over 2 to 13 weeks, 2 hours a day. And in this case, cross-sections of 5 years of work. We’ve tried to capture some of the progression, but it would be a lot to show, as you can imagine. So here and there, we jump time to give you a feel. We’ve included title cards to help bring meaning to the footage – so look out for those. And, pause the film to read the cards if the edit is moving too quickly. Lastly, to give you a real feeling for how our programs work, we have included long swatches of engagement. These may feel tedious – but this is the work.

A note on disclosure: This material is highly confidential. This is the first time we have shown any of our work to anyone other than finely scripted and permitted marketing communications. Please do not copy or share this material in any way. We have strict rules on sharing footage of children and children at home.  Additionally, what you are about to see gives insight into our proprietary processes. Our way of working must be kept under wraps. Even the video is being hosted on a secure password-protected server.

HEPH ED Overview

We’re been developing HEPH ED for 6 years. Year one was devoted to planning and research – we worked with young learners and  contracted DePaul School of teaching to vet the program.  Soon thereafter we were working with learners across Oak Park. The program is based on our 20 years of Internships and mentorships where we thought thousands of learners of all ages – even professional development for the employees of our advertising agency and production company.  Heph’s programing also takes a page out of our experience writing, developing and producing Children’s television for Sesame St., Nickelodeon and our own productions. The work has always been student-led, project-based and filled with diverse groups of learners.

SCHOOL TAKE OVERS

HEPH ED started in high schools and by popular demand are now working in middle and grade schools. It’s always a good time, as learners and most teachers are excited to break from routine. It’s kind of like a project-based circus coming to town. Classes last from 3 weeks to 13 week engagements. We push for longer engagemnents. The reason being, with longer time we can achieve new learning mindsets for the learners, teachers and school staff. To follow are a few examples of takeovers from various curriculums.
